Overview of Hypnosis

Hypnosis has been described in many different ways over the years but
most descriptions include the statement that 'hypnosis is a state of
relaxation far surpassing the normal level attained'. Contrary to popular
belief your mind also experiences a state of heightened awareness and
also becomes able to accept positive suggestion.

I would say that to put it as simply but also as accurately as possible,
'Hypnosis is a state wherein the conscious and subconscious parts of
the mind begin to work on the same concept at the same time without
conflict'.

It is possible to initiate the state of hypnosis oneself (self hypnosis) or it
can be initiated for you by a hypnotist. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural
state and most people experience the state often but are not aware that
this is what is called hypnosis.

Hypnosis is safe. No one can compel anyone else to do anything they
truly do not wish to do or to reveal anything they do not wish to reveal
about themselves. You are always in control and will be able to
remember all that happens during your hypnotherapy sessions.
it sometimes happens that being so relaxed, one's mind can wander
off for a moment, but you will normally be so interested in what you
are experiencing and what is happening during your session that you
will be likely to remember every detail.

Hypnotherapy then, is the use of hypnosis to relax and focus the mind
and then therapy will be applied by the hypnotherapist. The most usual
ways of working are with Hypnotic Suggestion and Hypnoanalysis.

When asked ' what does hypnotherapy feel like', I usually respond with
something like, 'There is no special way that everyone feels when in
hypnosis. People tell me of different experiences but most would settle
on something like, feeling very relaxed, like daydreaming, or maybe a
sensation of being very light or very heavy, floating, or perhaps just
felling warm and safe'. Hypnosis is a normal part of the working of the mind!

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a therapy that involves the examination of behaviour and it requires action to solve problems. Behaviour can be said to be anything we do. It can be any action; any thought or thought pattern, what you may say, a memory, a sensation or an emotion. Work is in fact anything we do that requires some degree of effort and this therapy requires the cooperation, desire and work of the client. This includes changing any behaviour, habits or usual actions causing problems, restrictions or distress in life.

Psychotherapy and Counselling have a great deal in common but counselling is not the same as psychotherapy. Counselling usually brings about a realization or helps a person to reach a decision. A Psychotherapist helps or facilitates as you create changes in your personal environment that bring about the desired change in your life.

Hypno-Psychotherapy

Hypno-Psychotherapy is both integrative (using a wide range of psychotherapeutic techniques) and eclectic (choosing the right mix of techniques and styles of therapy to resolve the issues/problems/conditions presented, thus offering the most balanced and effective therapy possible in each and every situation.
